Haweswater is now one of the largest lakes in the Lake District and is the most easterly of the lakes. Haweswater and has no settlements on its shores. In 1929 a bill was passed by Parliament authorising the use of Haweswater as a reservoir for the city of Manchester. A concrete dam was built raising the lake level by 95 feet.
