The town of Alston is situated in the North Pennines close to the Northumbrian border.  Alston is England's highest market town and is surrounded by a unique landscape of moorland, hills, rivers and waterfalls.  Alston is an ideal walking and cycling centre with the Pennine Way passing through the town.  Alston is also the starting point for the South Tynedale Railway.
