The Lake District Directory Hesket Newmarket Letter: X
The small village of Hesket Newmarket is situated just inside the northern edge of the Lake District National Park. Hesket Newmarket is situates in the Caldbeck fells. The village is a collection of mainly 18th century cottages that are gathered around a village green and a market cross. Hesket Newmarket was little more than a hamlet until the 18th century, when the market charter was granted, but it never really caught on as a market town, and the market had closed by the end of the 19th century.
